Reducing vibration and noise in high-speed train cars with water-based damping coatings
Noise and vibration in a high-speed car come from the drive system, wheel–rail interaction and airflow. A water-based damping coating can go on floors, wall panels, ceilings and similar places to cut vibration transmission and noise.
Where the noise comes from
Noise from the drive system (motors, transmission, brakes) enters the car; vibration from wheel–rail interaction travels through the body structure and floor into the car; at high speed airflow noise is most noticeable around the doors and windows.
What the damping layer does
A uniform damping layer on surfaces such as the floor absorbs and spreads vibration energy and turns it into a small amount of heat, reducing vibration transmission and noise. Wall panels, ceilings and similar places can be treated too.
Application and maintenance
Installation is relatively simple and quick, and the coating can be touched up or repaired locally when needed. Environmental indicators and health effects follow test reports and the applicable standards.
