Choosing a water-based damping coating for light rail vehicles
Light rail runs flexibly and has a smaller noise and vibration impact, but noise reduction and environmental demands still apply. Damping coatings are used to lower vibration and noise, raise comfort and protect mechanical structures.
Why water-based
Traditional damping coatings are organic-solvent based and produce volatile organic compounds (VOC). Water-based coatings use water as the base; VOC release indicators follow test reports, and damping performance and environmental indicators must be confirmed against the specific model's data.
Application features
Light rail needs a coating with suitable damping performance and heat resistance that works steadily in operation and at higher temperatures, reducing vibration and noise and raising passenger comfort.
Challenges to face
Water-based coatings often cost more to make and are harder to apply; their long-term performance and durability still need observing, and experience has to be built up in service to refine the formulation and the application process.
